On the eve of the Global AI Summit in Hyderabad, the Telangana government unveiled ambitious plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its education system and forge strategic partnerships with tech giants and academic institutions. These initiatives, announced by Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of the IT Department, highlight the state’s commitment to positioning itself at the forefront of AI innovation and education.
AI Curriculum in Government Schools
In a significant step towards preparing students for the AI-driven future, Telangana will introduce an AI curriculum in government schools. While the details are still being finalized, the plan is to incorporate AI education starting from Class 6 onwards. The government is actively seeking an agency to assist in curriculum development, ensuring that students gain the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in the digital age.
Strategic Partnerships & MoUs
During the summit, the Telangana government announced a series of 26 MoUs (Memorandums of Understanding) with prominent tech companies, including NVIDIA, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon Web Services, as well as academic institutions, startups, and not-for-profit organizations. These partnerships aim to foster innovation, research, and skill development in the field of AI.
Microsoft’s Commitment to AI Training
One of the notable collaborations is with Microsoft, which has pledged to train a vast number of individuals in AI, digital productivity, and cybersecurity through the “Advantage Telangana” initiative. This comprehensive training program will benefit 50,000 secondary school students, 10,000 vocational students, 20,000 industry workers, and 50,000 government officials, equipping them with the tools to navigate the digital landscape effectively.
NVIDIA’s Focus on AI Education & Research
The government has also entered into a three-year strategic partnership with NVIDIA Corporation. Through NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute (DLI) program, 5,000 students from 200 technical and higher education institutions will receive AI training. Additionally, NVIDIA will collaborate with the government to establish an AI Centre of Excellence, dedicated to driving innovation and research in the field.

According to Jayesh, these initiatives underscore Telangana’s proactive approach to embracing AI and its potential to transform various sectors. By introducing AI education at an early stage and fostering collaborations with industry leaders, the state is laying a strong foundation for a future where its citizens are well-equipped to harness the power of AI for economic growth and societal development.
