Jiangsu Recbio Technology Co. Ltd, a prominent biopharmaceutical company based in China, has announced a strategic partnership with Biological E Limited (BE), a company located in Hyderabad, to produce a Recombinant 9-valent HPV vaccine, referred to as REC603. This vaccine is specifically designed to offer protection against nine strains of the Human Papillomavirus, which are known to be associated with various cancers, including cervical, vulvar, vaginal, anal, oropharyngeal cancers, and genital warts.
Under the terms of this agreement, Biological E will obtain exclusive rights to commercialize the HPV9 vaccine in India and will also have the opportunity to compete in global tenders organized by reputable organizations such as UNICEF and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). As part of the arrangement, Recbio will provide the necessary drug substance (DS) along with technologies for formulation, filling, and packaging to Biological E. Additionally, there will be a later transfer of the DS production technology.
Currently, Recbio is actively beginning the knowledge transfer process, sharing key technical expertise, materials, and resources to facilitate local production of the vaccine. The collaboration emphasizes support for Biological E through clinical development and navigating the regulatory approval processes. This partnership aspires to address the increasing global demand for cervical cancer prevention strategies. Following the completion of technology transfer, large-scale manufacturing of the HPV9 vaccine is expected to commence.
Dr. Liu Yong, the chairman and CEO of Recbio, has expressed that this agreement marks a significant advancement in their global expansion efforts. Meanwhile, Mahima Datla, the Managing Director of Biological E, highlighted the partnership as a reflection of their commitment to enhancing access to life-saving vaccines, ensuring they are both more available and affordable in the regions they serve.
