In a groundbreaking development for medical technology in India, KIMS Sunshine Hospital, Hyderabad has launched its Augmented Reality (AR)-enabled outpatient department (OPD) services June 4th. This initiative marks the first of its kind in the country and aims to revolutionize the way doctors diagnose and treat patients.
The collaboration with the South Korean tech firm SKIA has birthed an innovative platform that allows healthcare professionals to visualize internal organs and medical conditions in real-time. This AR technology functions similarly to a Google Map of the human body, offering a new perspective during consultations and surgical planning.
Dr. AV Gurava Reddy, managing director of KIMS Sunshine Hospital, emphasized the significance of this advancement, stating that it allows for the identification of critical conditions such as tumors, cancers, and ulcers through AR-based scans. The ability to convert complex CT and MRI data into interactive 3D visualizations enhances both understanding for the physicians and communication with patients about their conditions.
The AR-assisted services will be initially integrated into various medical departments, including: Medical and Surgical Gastroenterology, Urology, Gynaecology, Hepatology, Cardiology and Neurosurgery.
This technology not only supports precise diagnosis but also aids in surgical planning, patient education, and improving the overall consultation experience.
KIMS Sunshine Hospital’s introduction of AR capabilities is expected to pave the way for more advanced medical practices across India. By providing physicians with a clearer view of a patient’s health issues, it enhances the quality of care delivered and bolsters the capabilities of medical professionals. As hospitals begin to embrace such innovative technologies, the future of healthcare appears promising, with augmented reality at the forefront of improving patient outcomes and experiences.
With this pioneering initiative, KIMS Sunshine Hospital demonstrates its commitment to leveraging technology to improve medical services in India, setting a precedent for other institutions to follow.
