The Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB), in collaboration with Dr. B.R.K.R. Government Ayurvedic Medical College, observed National Anti-Pollution Day on Monday, Hyderabad.
The event, themed “Clean Air for All”, aimed to raise awareness about pollution and its harmful effects on health and the environment, while encouraging collective action toward sustainable solutions.
The program featured a seminar on the importance of pollution control and sustainable environmental practices. Experts from environmental science, pollution control, and Ayurveda delivered insightful talks about pollution in Telangana, its impact, and effective strategies for mitigation and prevention.
Participants, including students and environmental enthusiasts, showcased creative posters promoting eco-friendly technologies and sustainable practices. These included reducing single-use plastics, conserving energy and water, participating in plantation drives, recycling old devices, and adopting public transport and electric vehicles to combat environmental degradation.
According to the statement, Dr. W.G. Prasanna Kumar, a Senior Social Scientist at TGPCB, spoke about the harmful effects of vehicular pollution on human health and suggested remedies for addressing air and water pollution. Dr. Upul, a postgraduate scholar, highlighted the role of plants, flowers, seeds, and trees in reducing pollution and purifying water.
He emphasized the medicinal and environmental benefits of plants like gooseberry, moringa, neem, sunflower, and tulasi. Dr. Upul also shared insights into traditional methods like using charcoal, seeds, and sand for water purification and explained how trees like mango, peepul, and eucalyptus play a crucial role in absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.
B. Nageswara Rao, Project Officer at TGPCB, gave a presentation on sustainable practices and the significance of clean air. An interactive quiz engaged the audience, testing their knowledge on environmental issues, pollution prevention, and the role of individuals and organizations in promoting a cleaner, greener world.
The event was attended by healthcare professionals, environmentalists, students, and the public. Dr. Ch. Rama Devi, Principal of Dr. B.R.K.R. Government Ayurvedic Medical College, presided over the event. Professors Dr. Yashodha, Dr. A. Vijaya Laxmi, Dr. P. Ravinder Goud, and Dr. Laxmikantham also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need for pollution control and sustainable living.
The program served as a platform to educate and inspire participants to contribute to a healthier, pollution-free environment while fostering community involvement in tackling environmental challenges.
