Hyderabad: According to government statistics, the 108 ambulances responded to 67 heatstroke incidents between March and April 8. Of them, 28 were documented in only the past week.
Nizamabad reported the most instances (six) out of all the districts in March, and Jayashankar Bhupalpally had the most cases (five) in the first week of April.
Other districts including Adilabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Nalgonda, and Jangaon have also reported two to three incidents in March and April.
The Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), which runs the 108 ambulances, conducted an investigation and found that individuals between the ages of 25 and 35 were more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.
It has been observed that heat-related diseases are more common among men, and the majority of the 108 ambulance cases that were received between the 12–6 pm timeframe. Approximately 5% of the individuals had a changed mental condition, 10% had a body temperature more than 104 degrees Fahrenheit, and 12% were determined to be nonresponsive, according to LA Khalid, state head of EMRI 108 services. Eighty percent of the 108 staff members managed the situation with the assistance of online medical instructions from the main office. Rural regions accounted for the majority of the cases treated by 108.
Every casualty was sent to a government hospital. The patients were treated with IV fluids, ORS, oxygen and cold sponges, and medicines. “There were no fatalities,” the official stated.
