ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 mission team recently won the prestigious 2024 John L “Jack” Swigert, Jr, Award for Space Exploration from the US-based Space Foundation. This award, presented at the annual Space Symposium in Colorado, recognizes outstanding contributions to space exploration. The Consul General of India in Houston accepted the award on behalf of ISRO’s Chandrayaan team.
The Space Foundation, established in 1983, promotes global space collaboration through information and education. The Space Symposium, hosted since 1984, serves as a platform for the global space community to convene.
Chandrayaan-3, developed by ISRO, aims to further humanity’s understanding of space exploration. India’s successful lunar landing on the Moon’s South Pole demonstrates its leadership and ingenuity in the global space arena.
Space Foundation CEO Heather Pringle commended India’s space leadership, praising the Chandrayaan-3 team’s remarkable achievements. The award, named after astronaut John L “Jack” Swigert Jr., honors extraordinary accomplishments in space exploration.
Chandrayaan-3’s historic lunar landing last year marked India as the fourth nation to achieve this feat, following the US, Russia, and China. The mission’s success highlights India’s growing prowess in space exploration and its contributions to scientific discovery on a global scale.
