The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has launched an exciting project to support women entrepreneurs in North India. This initiative aims to empower over 500 members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by enhancing their financial and digital skills.
In partnership with EXL, a well-known data analytics and solutions company, the project focuses on providing knowledge and resources to women who want to start or grow their businesses. The program will take place across six states: Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Rajasthan.
A significant part of the initiative is the creation of a comprehensive handbook designed to serve as a self-learning guide for women entrepreneurs. This handbook will provide essential information to help participants manage their businesses more effectively.
“We are optimistic that this initiative will lead to greater economic empowerment for women across India,” said Prof. Seema Sharma, who is leading the project at IIT Delhi. She emphasized the importance of improving financial literacy to help women achieve independence and contribute to the country’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem.
To launch the project, a three-day workshop was held at IIT Delhi. The workshop featured practical training sessions that allowed over 100 women entrepreneurs to learn and showcase their products. The hands-on approach helped participants apply what they learned in real-life business situations.
Prof. Gourav Dwivedi, a co-principal investigator of the project, stated, “This initiative bridges the gap between academic knowledge and the needs of grassroots entrepreneurs.” By connecting these women with practical skills and valuable support, the project aims to create a more inclusive entrepreneurial landscape in India.
The success of the workshop marks the beginning of a broader effort to empower women and expand their opportunities in the business world. The project promises to shape a brighter future for many women entrepreneurs in North India.
As this initiative unfolds, it is expected to inspire more women to take charge of their financial futures, enabling them to contribute significantly to their families and their communities. The collaboration between IIT Delhi and EXL is a step forward in promoting women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship in India.
