The event at the company’s headquarters here was marked by the cutting of the ceremonial Formation Day cake by BDL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Shailesh Vagerwal, in the presence of Directors, senior officials, employees, and representatives of recognised unions and associations.
Floral tributes were paid to Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Babu Jagjivan Ram, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, and Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, in recognition of their contributions to nation-building.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vagerwal extended greetings to the BDL fraternity and expressed gratitude to serving and retired employees and their families, along with officials of the Ministry of Defence, the Central Industrial Security Force, business partners, and other stakeholders, for their continued support to the company’s growth.
He called upon employees to remain committed to customer satisfaction, timely delivery, operational excellence, quality, innovation, and teamwork, in order to meet the growing requirements of the Armed Forces and to further the Union government’s vision of a Viksit Bharat.
Outlining his vision for the company, the Chairman and Managing Director said BDL was working towards establishing itself as a globally respected defence manufacturing enterprise, anchored in a customer-centric approach, quality, timely delivery, innovation, accountability, integrity, and teamwork.
Reaffirming the company’s role in furthering the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Mr. Vagerwal emphasised the importance of employee empowerment, continuous learning, digital transformation, technological excellence, workplace safety, sustainability, and closer collaboration with the Armed Forces, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), industry, and academia.
Incorporated in 1970 as a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, BDL functions as the manufacturing base for guided missile systems and allied equipment for the Indian Armed Forces, and has, over the decades, worked closely with the DRDO and foreign original equipment manufacturers in this regard.
