Insights from Apollo Medical College’s Convocation
“Everybody advises you to work hard, but my message to you is to work smart. When you work smart, hard work becomes enjoyable,” Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, chairman and founder of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) said. Attending as the Chief Guest to the convocation ceremony of the graduating class of 2018- Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR) on Monday, he emphasized that hard work alone is no longer sufficient; rather, students must complement their efforts with smart strategies that enhance productivity and satisfaction in their professional lives. The event marked a significant milestone as it celebrated the graduation of the first undergraduate batch completing their medical education during an unprecedented global pandemic.
Dr. Reddy, whose commitment to patient care exemplifies the integration of passion and professionalism, recounted his personal experiences during medical procedures. “I enjoy watching the endoscopy monitor as I perform procedures, and I take great pleasure in listening to my patients’ stories,” he said, showcasing how personal fulfilment can drive motivation and success in one’s career.
He also urged the graduates to embrace continuous learning and adapt to the swiftly changing healthcare environment. “If you remain where you are, you will fall behind,” he warned, highlighting the necessity for the next generation of doctors to be proactive in their careers.
Another guest of honour was Dr. Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals Group, who acknowledged the unique challenges faced by medical professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. “You were the first hybrid batch. You taught us how to teach from the classroom as well as remotely,” she noted, commending the graduating students for their resilience during such uncertain times.
Dr. Siddhant Barmecha was honoured with Dr. KVR Prasad Memorial Gold Medal, a recognition awarded to the best outgoing undergraduate student from the batch. Students who contributed significantly to the medical community during the pandemic were praised for their courage and adaptability. The challenges of COVID-19 provided them with unique experiences that they will carry throughout their careers, equipping them with skills and insights necessary to face future healthcare challenges.
The event concluded with a sense of hope and determination, not only for the graduates but for the future of healthcare as a whole.
