According to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, India is ready to take the lead globally in artificial intelligence (AI), just as it has demonstrated its abilities in IT services.
Speaking to news agency PTI at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the minister of electronics and information technology stated that the required rules would be in place for AI while keeping innovation in check.
The senior minister spoke of a united India this time at Davos, saying, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made it very clear to us that the Indian pavilion this time at Davos should integrate all states.” This time, it has transmitted a really positive message for a cohesive national image. On one stage, leaders from five or six different parties gathered,” he continued.
According to Vaishnaw, people all over the world now comprehend how India managed to maintain a steady economic trajectory when many other nations plunged into severe debt.
Regarding the problems provided by AI and the fact that misinformation and mistrust are emerging as the world’s largest threats, according to the World Economic Forum, he stated that although we must undoubtedly take the appropriate precautions, there are also enormous potential that must be used responsibly.
There is a comparable opportunity in AI to how India has demonstrated its prowess in IT services. We must prepare our young people for that.
“We are establishing AI-ready courses in 200 universities to prepare our youth to ensure leadership position for India in the AI domain, just as we began 5G laboratories in 100 universities for telecom and equipped 250 universities with the latest semiconductor design tools,” he said.
When asked about new AI legislation, Vaishnaw stated that in order for innovation and regulation to coexist, they must be balanced.
Speaking at a panel discussion in Davos, Vaishnaw predicted that India would be able to control inflation and sustain an economic growth rate of 6–8% in the years to come. He added that one of his government’s main priorities for increasing exports is the streamlining of customs and tariffs.
According to Vaishnaw, India has unrivaled talent in many fields, and its policies have earned it the trust of the international community. He noted that businesses are moving their value chains and factories to India.
According to Vaishnaw, one of the government’s main priorities is the simplification of tariffs and customs procedures, and export-led growth can be a crucial differentiator.
