During National Nutrition Week, experts at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) in Banjara Hills focused on the crucial link between diet and kidney health. They held a series of events to educate the public about healthy eating habits.
Doctors and dietitians, including Dr. Srikanth Gundlapalli and Chief Clinical Dietitian P. Tulasi, emphasized the importance of cutting down on salt and sugar to reduce the risk of kidney diseases. They highlighted that many people are at risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypertension, and diabetes due to poor dietary choices.
“Making changes in our diet can significantly improve kidney function,” said Dr. Srikanth. He noted that a large concern these days is the increase in renal stones, advising people to drink more water and stay hydrated to help prevent this issue.
The awareness events included special diet consultations for patients, sessions for sharing renal-friendly recipes, and informative discussions on how to combat obesity, hypertension, and diabetes through better nutrition.
“Keeping a balanced diet is key to maintaining kidney health,” said Tulasi. She encouraged everyone to adopt these healthy habits to support their overall well-being.
As the focus on nutrition continues, AINU aims to motivate individuals to make healthy food choices for a better future.
