Excerpts from Viral video Interview with ‘IIT Baba’ Abhey Singh
You are speaking very eloquently, and it seems you have a remarkable educational background.
- Yes, I studied at IIT Bombay. I completed my degree in aerospace engineering there.
IIT Bombay? That’s impressive! So, how did you transition from that to your current situation?
- This is the best situation. When you walk on the path of God, where else would you end up but here?
Fascinating! Can you share a bit about your roots?
- I am from Haryana. I was born there and have lived in various places. I spent four years in Mumbai for my studies, and afterward, I pursued a Master’s in Design. That led me into photography and the arts.
That’s quite a journey! While you were studying aerospace engineering, did you work in the industry?
- Not exactly in the aerospace sector. I spent a year studying physics at a coaching center because my true passion was photography. I couldn’t pursue that without a formal degree. So, I dedicated a year to my preparation, cleared the entrance exam for my Master’s in Design, which focuses on interaction design, visual communication, product design, animation, and much more.
It sounds like you have explored numerous avenues. Were there any philosophical influences during your engineering studies?
- Absolutely. I took philosophy courses while studying engineering. I delved into topics like postmodernism, the works of Socrates and Plato, and I was constantly searching for the meaning of life. I was determined to understand what it is all about and what my purpose should be.
Your journey from an aerospace engineer to a spiritual guide known as ‘IIT Baba’ is quite extraordinary. It seems you’ve embraced a unique identity with long nails, bangles, and necklaces. Can you share more about that transformation?
- Yes, this transformation has been essential to my spiritual journey. Each element of my appearance symbolizes my dedication to this path. The long nails and bangles represent my relinquishment of the conventional lifestyle I once led. They are reminders of my commitment to spirituality and the teachings of Lord Shiva, whom I devote my practices to.
It’s both inspiring and thought-provoking. Many aspire to study at IIT, but few make it through. You’ve not only succeeded academically but also found your spiritual calling. What message do you have for those who might feel lost in their pursuits?
- Always seek the deeper meaning in everything you do. Success in traditional terms—like getting into IIT—does not define your life’s purpose. Follow your heart’s calling and be open to change. In my case, it led me from a promising engineering career to a path that fulfils my soul. Embrace exploration and never shy away from asking the big questions about life.
