Analytik Jena’s section of Smart Labtech’s booth covers three measurement disciplines that, in many labs, still sit on separate instruments and separate service contracts — atomic absorption spectrometry, total organic carbon analysis, and automated liquid handling — brought together this year under a single principal.
The atomic absorption range spans three tiers matched to different accuracy and application demands. The novAA 800 Series uses deuterium background correction and is positioned for routine, high-volume applications where speed and reliability matter more than handling the most difficult sample matrices. The ZEEnit Series steps up to Zeeman background correction, built specifically for robust trace analysis where sample matrices are complex enough to challenge simpler correction methods. At the top, the contrAA 800 Series uses a single xenon arc lamp covering the entire wavelength range in one source, paired with what Analytik Jena describes as state-of-the-art interference correction software — a configuration aimed at labs regularly handling their most demanding, critical sample matrices without switching lamps between elements.
Alongside AAS, the SPECORD PLUS Series covers UV/Vis molecular spectroscopy, built around high-precision optics that Analytik Jena specifically positions for low-concentration and turbid samples — a detail that matters for labs working with environmental or food-matrix samples where sample clarity can’t be guaranteed.
For total organic carbon and total nitrogen bound analysis, the Multi N/C x300 series offers three configurations pitched at different throughput needs: the 2300, described as “the Specialist”; the 3300, “the Allrounder”; and the 4300 UV, “the Trace Detector.” All three share a genuinely practical feature — samples with high TOC content don’t require dilution before analysis, and both liquid and solid samples run without hardware conversion between sample types, a workflow advantage that reduces both analyst time and a common source of measurement error in TOC labs.
Rounding out the section, Analytik Jena’s CyBio automated liquid handling range — the Felix, PULSE, Spencer R, Selma and Well Vario platforms — addresses the growing need in genomics, drug discovery and high-throughput screening labs for liquid handling that stays reliable and reproducible across a wide range of volumes, reducing the manual pipetting variability that remains one of the most persistent sources of error in multi-step sample prep workflows.
Seen together rather than as three separate booth stops, the AAS, TOC and liquid-handling lines make a coherent case for consolidating vendor relationships around a single vendor’s service and calibration infrastructure — a practical consideration for lab managers weighing instrument decisions against annual maintenance contract complexity as much as against sticker price.
