Thiruvananthapuram, the bustling capital city of Kerala, is rapidly solidifying its position as a prominent global research and development (R&D) hub for major players in the automotive industry. The city’s definitive stride towards becoming a nucleus of automotive innovation has garnered attention, thanks to the ecosystem fostered by Technopark, India’s first IT Park.

Fostering Innovation: The Role of Technopark

This promising development has gained further affirmation with the announcement that Thiruvananthapuram is slated to host a high-profile global automotive conclave in November, reinforcing its aspirations as a global automotive technology hub. This strategic maneuver was articulated by the State Industries Minister P. Rajeeve during the inauguration of the global headquarters and R&D center of Acsia Technologies in Technopark.

A Hotbed for Automotive Technology Companies

The burgeoning reputation of Thiruvananthapuram as a haven for automotive innovation has been underscored by the establishment of global automotive technology companies such as dSPACE and Nissan Digital within its boundaries. Jijimon Chandran, the illustrious founder and CEO of Acsia Technologies, emphasized the city’s potential as a cradle of innovation, particularly in the realms of digital cockpits & displays, e-mobility, and telematics.

The global automotive industry’s march towards embracing a technology-driven future is well-reflected in the projections of over 470 million connected vehicles on the roads by 2025 and an estimated market exceeding $320 billion by 2030 for automotive software, electronic control units (ECUs), and sensors. Thiruvananthapuram, with its avant-garde infrastructure, vibrant R&D ecosystem, and a rich reservoir of engineering talent, appears poised to meet the exacting demands of this rapidly evolving industry.

A Convergence of Factors

The pronounced inclination of international entities such as dSPACE to establish their first competence center in Asia in Thiruvananthapuram, alongside the presence of established automotive titans like Nissan Digital and Tata Elxsi, is indicative of the city’s allure as an automotive technology powerhouse. Franklin George, the managing director of dSPACE, commended the presence of a skilled talent pool, minimal attrition rate, robust infrastructure, and government support as pivotal factors underpinning their decision.

Srinivas Aravapalli, the founder and CEO, and Kishore L.M., president and COO of BlueBinaries, an engineering and technology firm, extolled the outstanding infrastructure and reliable services, including high-speed internet, delivered by Technopark. This confluence positions Thiruvananthapuram as an ideal springboard for automotive innovations and sustained growth.

Col Sanjeev Nair (retd), CEO of Technopark, stressed the indispensable role of a burgeoning R&D system in steering companies through complex challenges and propelling them into the echelons of trusted partners for global automakers.

Thiruvananthapuram’s imminent ascendancy as a global R&D hub for major automotive companies signifies a watershed moment, underscoring the city’s decisive stride towards shaping the future of automotive technology.
