The state’s Clean & Green Energy Policy-2024, which aims to add 20,000 MW of renewable energy (RE) generation and storage capacity by 2030, would be unveiled shortly after cabinet approval, according to Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. The announcement was made in Hyderabad during a high-profile stakeholder meeting.
The Deputy Chief Minister, who is also in charge of the power and renewable energy portfolios, stressed the value of cooperation in order to accomplish this objective while speaking at the occasion. “This consultation represents a critical turning point in our government’s steadfast dedication to promoting sustainable growth and guaranteeing universal access to energy. Your cooperation and insights will be crucial in creating a cleaner, greener, and more affluent future for Telangana,” he said.
According to Bhatti Vikramarka, the policy would be formally unveiled shortly after being presented for approval at the cabinet meeting.
The Potential and Present Situation of Renewable Energy
Telangana is in a great position to use renewable energy because it has more than 300 sunny days a year and a substantial 54,717 MW wind energy potential. 11,399 MW of renewable energy capacity are currently available in the state, including:
Solar power: 7,889 megawatts
Renewable energy distributed: 771 MW
Wind energy: 128 MW
Hydro energy: 2,518 MW
Electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure: 872 charging stations
With plans to significantly improve storage capacity, the state also has pumped storage projects at Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar.
Motivating the Transformation of Energy
A multifaceted strategy for attaining energy sustainability is outlined in the Telangana Clean & Green Energy Policy:
Standalone RE Projects: Quickening the installation of wind and solar power.
Expanding floating solar projects and implementing Firm & Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) and Renewable Energy Round-the-Clock (RE-RTC) technology are examples of innovative solutions.
Energy Storage: Progressing pumped storage projects and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Distributed Generation: Encouraging the residential and agricultural sectors to utilize solar power.
Waste-to-Energy: Leveraging industrial and agricultural waste for power generation.
Green Hydrogen: Promoting green hydrogen refueling facilities and production.
Policy Rewards
In order to stimulate innovation and draw in investments, the policy consists of:
Tax exemptions include exemptions from stamp duty, electricity duty, and net SGST.
Capital Subsidies: Funding for the production of energy storage devices, wind turbines, and solar panels.
Single-Window Clearance: Simplified approval processes to expedite project execution.
Full Net SGST refund for rooftop solar installations is one of the distributed solar incentives.
Meeting Increasing Demand for Energy
Telangana expects the demand for electricity to expand sharply due to industrial growth and urbanization, from 15,623 MW in FY 2024 to 24,215 MW by FY 2030 and 31,809 MW by FY 2035. This increase is anticipated to be fueled by projects like Future City, AI City, and Pharma City.
By increasing transmission and distribution capacity, implementing smart grid technologies, and guaranteeing a steady supply of electricity, Telangana hopes to fortify its energy infrastructure and satisfy this demand.

The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that the policy is a “living document” that changes based on feedback from experts and leaders in the business, and he urged stakeholders to actively participate in its creation.
