Jayesh Ranjan Explains the Success Behind Telangana at WEF 2025
Dr. Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary for IT and Industries for the Government of Telangana, led the Telangana Delegation to Davos. Naresh Nunna of Neo Science Hub spoke with him about the state’s ambitious “Telangana Rising 2050 Vision” and its accomplishments at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 in Davos. Here are the excerpts:
Could you share the key objectives of Telangana’s participation at the WEF 2025?
Telangana’s participation at the WEF 2025 was driven by our long-term roadmap, the “Telangana Rising 2050 Vision,” which outlines our commitment to sustainable growth and technology-driven urbanization. The focus was on promoting Telangana as a progressive, business-friendly state with immense potential in diverse sectors like IT, pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence, and sustainable urban development. Additionally, we aimed to foster partnerships that align with our objectives for women’s empowerment, youth engagement, and equitable growth.
Telangana has been a regular participant at Davos. What sets this year apart from previous years?
This year marked a significant evolution in our approach. While investments have been a key focus, we used this platform to unveil our Telangana Rising 2050 Vision. It’s a comprehensive plan that emphasizes urbanization, sustainability, and technological innovation over the next 25 years. Unlike previous years, this visit emphasized a long-term narrative that goes beyond immediate investments. Our delegation also focused on creating a strong global presence and establishing deeper relationships with global investors.
Can you provide some insights into the tangible outcomes of this year’s participation?
Absolutely. Telangana signed 20 MoUs at WEF 2025, amounting to investments worth ₹1.79 lakh crore across sectors such as AI, IT, biopharmaceuticals, and advanced manufacturing. These agreements highlight the global confidence in Telangana’s governance and business environment. Notably, 80% of the investments announced during last year’s WEF have already been grounded, which is a testament to our state’s efficient execution framework.
How do you see these investments transforming Telangana’s economic and technological landscape?
These investments are transformative. In technology, we’re strengthening our position as a global hub for AI, data analytics, and software development. In pharmaceuticals, the focus is on next-generation drug discovery and biomanufacturing. Advanced manufacturing investments are pushing the boundaries of automation and precision engineering. Collectively, these initiatives will not only drive economic growth but also spur innovation and create jobs for thousands of skilled professionals in Telangana.
You’ve emphasized sustainability and technology-driven urbanization as pillars of the Telangana Rising 2050 Vision. How do you plan to achieve these goals?
The Telangana Rising 2050 Vision integrates sustainability into every aspect of development. For instance, we’re focusing on green energy initiatives like solar and hydrogen, sustainable mobility solutions, and smart urban planning. Technology-driven urbanization includes creating smart cities equipped with AI-based systems for governance, healthcare, and public services. We’re also committed to leveraging technology to address social challenges, ensuring that growth is inclusive and equitable.
What role does the WEF platform play in achieving the state’s long-term vision?
The WEF serves as a global stage for us to connect with decision-makers, innovators, and industry leaders. While the immediate outcomes, like MoUs, are important, the platform’s real value lies in the visibility and credibility it provides to Telangana within the global investment community. It enables us to build foundational relationships that may materialize into larger collaborations over time.
How does Telangana compare with other states in India when it comes to leveraging platforms like the WEF for growth?
Telangana has consistently positioned itself as a front-runner in leveraging global platforms like the WEF. Our ability to translate MoUs into action, as evidenced by last year’s 80% implementation rate, sets us apart. Additionally, our focus on futuristic sectors like AI, clean energy, and sustainable urbanization ensures that we’re not just competing locally but also establishing ourselves as a global player.
What message would you like to share with the global community about Telangana?
Telangana is a state that means business. Our consistent presence at platforms like the WEF is a reflection of our commitment to growth, innovation, and sustainability. We welcome global partners to join us in realizing the Telangana Rising 2050 Vision, creating a future that benefits not just our state but also the world at large.
