A major step toward boosting Sweden-India collaboration in scientific-driven industries unfolded with a high-profile networking reception hosted at the Swedish Ambassador’s Residence in New Delhi on September 15, 2025. The event, organized by Ms. Agnes Julin, Chargé d’Affairesa.i. and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden, brought together a dynamic visiting delegation of Swedish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), senior diplomats, and select Indian industry leaders poised for international partnership.
At the heart of the embassy gathering were Sweden’s ongoing efforts to deepen business and technology ties with India, now one of Sweden’s fastest-expanding trade partners in Asia. Official participation included Mr. LudvigFoghammar, Economic Counsellor and Head of Section for Trade, Economics and Cultural Affairs, and Ms. Sofia Högman, Trade Commissioner to India for Business Sweden, whose agency spearheads Swedish export and investment initiatives across South and Southeast Asia. Their joint presence underscored the Swedish government’s concerted push to connect innovative Nordic enterprises with leading Indian actors in critical sectors ranging from life sciences and clean technologies to advanced instrumentation.
Among the standout Swedish companies showcased was SpinChem AB, renowned for its breakthrough Rotating Bed Reactor (RBR) technology—a platform increasingly sought after by pharmaceutical, chemical, and environmental firms for transforming industrial processes. Represented by Dr. Emil Byström, CEO, and Ms. ToveNäsman, Business Manager, SpinChem has signaled strategic intent to scale operations and research outreach in high-potential Asian markets, with India at the forefront.
Indian entrepreneurship was powerfully represented by Venkata Satya Prasad Potharaju and andMaruti PrasadKavuri, the Managing Director and Directorof Smart Labtech, respectively. Smart Labtech, a leading provider of laboratory equipment and analytical technology, has rapidly expanded its footprint in India’s research and diagnostic ecosystems, recognized recently with prestigious industry awards for channel partnership and business excellence. Smart Labtech involvement in the reception illustrated the strength and global ambitions of Hyderabad’s laboratory sector, underscoring regional aspirations to become a preferred partner for international companies pursuing innovation and reliability in science and technology workflows.
This reception formed part of Business Sweden’s “Focus Asia SME Study Trip,” a coordinated effort to provide Swedish enterprises with deep market insights, networking opportunities, and practical engagement with India’s business environment. Scheduled site visits, cross-industry workshops, and knowledge-sharing forums with Indian conglomerates such as Tata and Reliance complemented the diplomatic events, rounding out a holistic agenda designed to foster trust, cross-border business development, and lasting collaboration.
Bilateral trade between Sweden and India, which has more than doubled since 2016, continues on a promising trajectory, with over 280 Swedish companies now directly employing more than 220,000 people across India. As innovation partnerships and joint R&D initiatives gain momentum—particularly in pharma and biotech—the involvement of forward-looking Indian business leaders like Satya Prasad sends a strong signal that India’s laboratory technology ecosystem is open for international partnerships, investment, and co-innovation.
As Sweden and India advance toward even greater convergence in science-led industries, events like this embassy reception will play a pivotal role—catalysing new alliances and charting routes for joint success in the global knowledge economy.
