Hyderabad: The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) hosted the launch of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research’s (CSIR) “One Week One Theme” (OWOT) programme, which aims to highlight creative problem-solving and technological advancements in the field of chemicals across nine of its laboratories.
In partnership with industry partners, Dr. KJ Sriram, Director of CSIR-CLRI (Central Leather Research Institute), explained that the goal of OWOT was to bridge the gap between the country’s chemical availability and imports in order to promote self-reliance.
The Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association of India (BDMA) president, R K Agarwal, stated that the CSIR, with its scientific infrastructure and expertise, can play a significant part in this transformation in manufacturing from volume to value.
According to Prof. Javed Iqbal, Director of Cosmic Industries, the nation’s reliance on imports for raw materials is harmful to the sector’s expansion.
Directors of CSIR laboratories, Dr K. Srinivasan, CSMCRI, Dr A Tiwari, NEIST, Director IICT, Dr D Srinivasa Reddy and other senior scientists were present.
