Jahnavi Dangeti, a 23-year-old from Palakollu in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district, has achieved a significant milestone by being selected as an Astronaut Candidate (ASCAN) for a forthcoming space mission under Titan Space Industries (TSI), a private U.S.-based agency focused on space research. This selection, confirmed by TSI in communication with The Hindu, marks a remarkable step in her career as she joins a prestigious cohort of astronaut candidates.
The mission she is set to be a part of will be led by retired NASA Colonel William McArthur Jr., who holds the position of Chief Astronaut for the Titans Space Mission. Jahnavi expressed her enthusiasm for the journey ahead, stating that she will participate in an intensive astronaut training program over the next three years, starting in 2026. This comprehensive training will include flight simulations, spacecraft procedures, survival training, and both medical and psychological evaluations, all designed to prepare her for the unique challenges of spaceflight.
The Titans Space Orbital flight, scheduled for launch in 2029, is projected to last five hours. It promises to create a transformative environment conducive to scientific research and the advancement of human spaceflight. Jahnavi, who previously made headlines as the youngest Analog Astronaut from the Analog Astronaut Training Centre in Krakow, Poland, is keen to embrace the mission as an opportunity to contribute to space exploration and innovation.
With her selection, Jahnavi Dangeti not only represents a personal achievement but also serves as inspiration within her community and beyond, showcasing the increasing involvement of young individuals in space exploration initiatives. As the countdown to the training and eventual mission begins, anticipation builds for what she and her team will accomplish in the vast expanse of space.
