Future Frontiers Divulged at the Inaugural Day of ICDPBB 2025
The International Conference on Developments in Plant Biology and Biotechnology (ICDPBB 2025) commenced on January 29, 2025, at the University of Hyderabad. The event promised to be a cornerstone for pioneering discussions and collaborative ventures in the realm of plant sciences, addressing pivotal themes such as food security, climate resilience, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Inaugural Session
The conference was inaugurated with welcoming remarks by S. Rajagopal, followed by insightful addresses from Anand K. Kondapi, and A. S. Raghavendra, laying the groundwork for a session rich in scientific foresight and global significance. Appa Rao Podile, the guest of honor, emphasized the crucial role of biotechnological innovations in shaping the future of plant biology.
Plenary Talks
The plenary session showcased two groundbreaking talks:
- Barry D. Bruce captivated the audience with his presentation on “Building a plastid one protein at a time”, illustrating the synthetic assembly of plastids which could revolutionize our approach to enhancing photosynthetic efficiencies in crops.
- Akhilesh Tyagi delved into “Rice genomics: Structure and development-related gene function”, offering a glimpse into how genomic insights are being utilized to foster rice varieties better adapted to various environmental stresses.
Session Ia: Plant-Microbe Interaction and Plant Signaling
This session unfolded with a series of high-caliber discussions:
- Umesh K. Reddy provided a keynote on “Targeted mutagenesis of PPR and AP2 via CRISPR-Cas9”, heralding a new era in precision breeding through CRISPR technologies.
- Manoj Prasad explored the complexities of the “HDA9-HDA19-HAT3 repressor complex during dehydration stress in foxtail millet”, highlighting the molecular defenses plants deploy against water scarcity.
- B.L Patil discussed innovative RNA-based strategies in “A Tasi-RNA-based micro-RNA-induced gene silencing strategy to tackle multiple plant pests and pathogens”, pointing towards sustainable solutions in pest management.
- Gopaljee Jha rounded out the session with insights into “Harnessing plant-associated bacterium for sustainable agriculture”, emphasizing the symbiotic relationships that can enhance crop resilience and productivity.
Engaging & Forward-Thinking
The first day of ICDPBB 2025 not only set a high benchmark for scientific dialogue but also fostered a multidisciplinary approach to tackling the challenges at the intersection of plant biology and biotechnology.
