Dr.Shailaja Donempudi, who is a former scientist at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), has been appointed as a Distinguished Scientist (DS). She will lead the Business Development Group (BDG) at the CSIR Headquarters in New Delhi. This new role highlights her expertise and experience in scientific research and business development.
Dr. Shailaja’s journey in science began in 1993 when she joined the CSIR Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR IICT) in Hyderabad after completing her Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry from Osmania University. Over the past 28 years, she has made remarkable contributions in the field of polymer chemistry, focusing on synthesis, characterization, and technology development. Her extensive work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the CSIR DAAD Fellowship in 1996, which allowed her to conduct advanced research in Germany.
Throughout her career, Dr. Shailaja has demonstrated an exceptional ability to connect scientific research with practical applications in the industry. She has received three Technology Team Awards for successfully transferring technologies to private companies, showcasing her role in bridging the gap between science and industry. Since 2017, she has also been leading Business Development & Research Management at CSIR IICT, where her efforts have led to improved technology transfers and revenue generation, securing a top-five position for her institute among CSIR labs in terms of business performance.
Dr. Shailaja is not only a scientist but also an inspiring figure for many. She has been invited to speak at numerous national and international events, sharing her expertise on topics such as polymer chemistry, technology innovation, and science diplomacy. Her remarkable career and contributions were even featured in a documentary titled “Ladies in Labs,” which aired on Doordarshan, highlighting the role of women in scientific fields.
The Director and staff at CSIR IICT celebrated Dr. Shailaja’s appointment, expressing their pride and support as she embarks on this new chapter at CSIR Headquarters. Her groundbreaking achievement paves the way for more women to follow in her footsteps and aspire to leadership roles in science and technology.
