In a significant step toward sustainable farming, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited (DRL) and Dr. Reddy’s Foundation (DRF) have inaugurated a state-of-the-art Soil Testing Resource Centre (STRC) in Hyderabad. Spread over an expansive 14,750 square feet, the facility is designed to empower farmers and agricultural professionals with fast, precise, and affordable soil testing services, promising to revolutionize farming practices.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the centre offers detailed testing for over 18 parameters, including primary nutrients, micronutrients, and heavy metals in soil, water, and plants. This advanced evaluation aims to provide actionable insights into soil health, such as nutrient levels, pH balance, and organic matter content. These findings can help farmers make informed decisions about fertilizer use, crop selection, and nutrient management, ultimately boosting productivity while lowering costs.
The STRC currently processes up to 75,000 soil samples annually, with plans to expand its capacity to an impressive 2 lakh samples per year. By offering comprehensive soil health analysis, the centre is bridging the gap between scientific research and practical solutions for farmers, promoting regenerative agricultural practices that are both productive and environmentally responsible.
Soil degradation remains a pressing issue in India, with factors like erosion, overuse of chemical fertilizers, and poor land management leading to a decline in fertility. Shockingly, only 5-20% of cultivable land in the country undergoes soil analysis. DRF emphasized that soil test-based recommendations outperform generic approaches, increasing crop yields by 20-30% while enhancing farmers’ income.
This initiative aims to close the gap in soil health understanding by providing precise and timely soil analyses. By optimizing nutrient use, the STRC not only enhances agricultural outcomes but also contributes to the broader goal of sustainable farming in India.
