Dr. Subash Chandra, Chief Scientist at CSIR-NGRI, Hyderabad

Dr. Subash Chandra, Chief Scientist at CSIR-NGRI, Hyderabad, has been elected Global Vice-Chair of the Society of Exploration Geophysics (SEG) Near Surface Geophysics Technical Section (NSTS) for a two-year term starting at IMAGE’24 in Houston. As Vice-Chair, he will be involved in developing and implementing a strategic vision and organising technical section activities.

An expert in groundwater research, Dr. Chandra specializes in airborne electromagnetics (AEM), aquifer mapping, and converting geophysical data into hydrogeological models. He pioneered airborne geophysics in India for high-resolution 3D aquifer mapping, notably used in the arid northwest regions under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. His AEM research in the Ganga Plains discovered a paleo river near Prayagraj, enhancing understanding of river-aquifer interactions.

Dr. Chandra has received the National Geosciences Award (2017) for his contributions to airborne electromagnetic aquifer mapping, is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, India (2023), and an Associate Fellow of the Telangana Academy of Science.
