Amgen, a leading biotechnology corporation based in the United States, announced a significant investment of ₹1,600 crores in Hyderabad as part of its expansion plans in India. The company inaugurated its new Technology & Innovation site located in Raheja Knowledge City, Raidurg, which marks a pivotal step in its efforts to enhance its presence in the Indian biotechnology sector.

At the inauguration ceremony attended by notable figures including Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, the announcement emphasized Amgen’s commitment to fostering talent in the region. Currently, Amgen employs approximately 300 professionals in Hyderabad and plans to add another 300 employees by the end of this year. This expansion is expected to provide a boost to local employment and contribute to the state’s growing reputation as a hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

Minister Sridhar Babu highlighted Hyderabad’s emergence as a key player in the biotechnology industry, thank to its skilled workforce and collaborative environment. He urged Amgen to engage with local universities, startups, and research institutions to drive innovation and enhance skill development in the biotechnology field.

The establishment of Amgen’s Technology & Innovation site is poised to play a crucial role in building Telangana’s biotechnology ecosystem. As the state works to position itself as a powerhouse for skilled human resources, partnerships with multinationals like Amgen can significantly enhance the local infrastructure and academic collaborations, ultimately benefiting both the company and the community.

In recent years, Telangana has seen a surge in investment proposals, with studies estimating worth ₹3.25 lakh crores attracted over the past three years. Investments from global giants like Amgen signal confidence in the Indian market, especially in sectors such as biotechnology that are critical for future healthcare advancements.

With this strategic move, Amgen not only strengthens its operational capabilities in India but also contributes to the growth of biotechnology talent in one of the country’s most dynamic states. This investment sets a precedent for further international collaboration and innovation within the Indian biotechnology landscape.
