Telangana Police has formally launched an upgraded, artificial-intelligence-enabled version of its Emergency Response Support System, branded TG-ERSS Dial 112, at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre in Hyderabad. The platform brings together police, fire services, medical ambulances, disaster response, and women and child safety units into a single, AI-driven operational interface, marking one of the more ambitious state-level deployments of artificial intelligence in Indian public-safety infrastructure to date.
Filtering Noise from Genuine Emergencies
A central feature of the upgrade is intelligent call filtering: AI algorithms screen incoming calls at the point of entry, identifying and suppressing spam, accidental dials, and silent calls before they consume operator time. According to the department, this filtering has reduced overall call-centre processing overhead by close to thirty per cent, freeing dispatchers to focus attention on genuine life-safety emergencies rather than sifting through nuisance traffic manually.
Faster Triage, Sharper Location Data
Once a genuine call is identified, speech-to-text engines transcribe the conversation in real time, while AI systems map the incident’s context and automatically route alerts to the nearest available field units, compressing the time between a call being placed and a response being dispatched. Location accuracy has also been substantially upgraded through a combination of Location-Based Services, Advanced Location Services, and integration with Google Maps, enabling the system to pinpoint the caller’s location with precision for more than ninety-four per cent of incoming requests — a critical capability in a country where informal addressing and rapidly changing urban geography have historically made emergency location identification difficult.
The department reports that these upgrades have translated into measurably faster response times: urban response times have fallen to approximately six minutes, while the statewide average now stands at ten minutes and thirty seconds, comfortably below the national average of eighteen minutes. Looking ahead, Telangana Police plans to pilot tethered drones as automated aerial first responders, integrated directly into the Dial 112 command network, potentially allowing visual assessment of an incident scene to begin before ground units even arrive — a further step toward the kind of fully networked, AI-augmented emergency response infrastructure that the state appears to be positioning itself as a national testbed for.
