A recent report by Deloitte Asia Pacific highlights that 92% of Indian executives see security vulnerabilities, including hacking and cyber threats, as the biggest challenge to adopting artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly. The findings emphasize the need for strong governance frameworks to build trust and minimize risks as businesses increasingly integrate AI into their systems.

The report, titled ‘AI at a crossroads: Building trust as the path to scale,’ surveyed 900 senior leaders across 13 markets. It revealed that while excitement about AI remains high, organizations still face significant hurdles.

According to the source, the report, 91% of Indian executives are particularly worried about privacy risks, especially regarding the use of sensitive data in AI. Additionally, 89% pointed to regulatory complexities as a challenge, with ever-changing compliance requirements slowing AI adoption.

Adding to the concerns, over half of technology professionals believe their companies are not prepared to manage AI-related risks. This highlights an urgent need for better governance strategies and upskilling initiatives to ensure businesses can use AI safely and effectively.

According to the statement, Jayant Saran, Partner at Deloitte India, emphasized that organizations must integrate AI into their systems while addressing knowledge gaps and technical challenges. “Continuous upskilling and collaboration across teams will be critical to AI’s sustainable adoption,” he said. “By building trust through strong governance frameworks and ethical practices, businesses can reduce risks, improve their reputation, and unlock AI’s potential to drive innovation.”

Despite these challenges, there is reason for optimism. The report noted that around 60% of employees in surveyed organizations already possess the skills needed for ethical and legal AI practices. Furthermore, 72% of organizations are actively hiring experts in ethical AI, which helps bridge existing skill gaps.

The report also revealed that 63% of Indian executives believe effective AI governance will lead to greater trust in the outcomes generated by AI solutions.

As Indian companies work to address these barriers, they remain optimistic that responsible AI adoption will deliver innovation and value while maintaining public trust.
