₹7,160 Crore Investment Transforms Bengaluru’s Urban Connectivity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Bengaluru’s transformative Yellow Line metro project on August 10, 2025, marking a significant milestone in India’s urban transportation infrastructure development. The 19.15-kilometer Phase-2 expansion, constructed at a cost of ₹7,160 crore, connects RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra through 16 strategically positioned stations, extending Bengaluru’s operational metro network to over 96 kilometres.
This critical transportation corridor addresses the mobility needs of over 8 lakh daily commuters while significantly reducing traffic congestion at key junctions including Silk Board, Hosur Road, and Electronics City. The Yellow Line employs cutting-edge driverless technology with three initial trainsets operating at 25-minute intervals, expected to improve frequency as operations stabilize. During the inauguration, PM Modi personally experienced the new system by taking a metro ride from Ragigudda to Infosys Foundation-Konappana Agrahara station, demonstrating the government’s commitment to world-class public transportation.
Simultaneously, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for Bengaluru Metro’s Phase-3 project, valued at ₹15,611 crore, which will add 44.65 kilometres of elevated tracks with 31 stations to further strengthen urban connectivity. The comprehensive infrastructure development includes flagging off three new Vande Bharat Express trains connecting Bengaluru-Belagavi, Amritsar-Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Nagpur-Pune routes, bringing India’s total Vande Bharat fleet to 150 trains. This massive investment, totaling nearly ₹23,000 crore, demonstrates India’s unprecedented focus on transforming urban mobility infrastructure and supporting sustainable development across major metropolitan areas.
