Hyderabad is on the brink of a revolutionary change in urban transportation with the upcoming launch of a new mobile application named TUTEM, which stands for Technologies for Urban Transit to Enhance Mobility and Safe Accessibility. Designed with a particular focus on ensuring safer travel, especially for women, this innovative app is a collaborative effort involving BITS Pilani-Hyderabad, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), Hyderabad Police, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Bombay. The initiative has received substantial financial backing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The introduction of the TUTEM app aligns with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s broader vision of fostering a secure and inclusive urban transit system in Hyderabad. NVS Reddy, Managing Director of HMRL, emphasized that the initiative aims not just to enhance mobility but also to prioritize public safety in urban transit.
The TUTEM app is expected to include both a Driver App and a User App, incorporating various transport options such as walking, auto-rickshaws, cars, and buses for seamless travel to and from Metro stations. Some of its key features include:
– Emergency Alerts: Users can send emergency notifications to police and family members if they ever feel unsafe.
– Integrated Transport Options: The app allows users to plan their journeys by integrating multiple modes of transport, thereby easing the transition between different forms of urban travel.
– Focus on Women’s Safety: With prominent features aimed at enhancing the safety of women commuters, TUTEM represents a significant step forward in making public transport more accessible and secure for all.
Since its inception, HMRL has been committed to innovation and sustainability, managing to transport nearly 500,000 passengers daily for the past seven years. The launch of the TUTEM app will be a valuable addition to the urban transport infrastructure, improving the overall commuter experience in Hyderabad.
As Hyderabad gears up for the launch of the TUTEM app, it marks a promising initiative towards creating a safer, more efficient transit system. With its integrated approach and emphasis on user safety, TUTEM could set a benchmark for urban transportation solutions in India, making it a pivotal tool for both residents and tourists in navigating the city. The collective effort from various institutions not only enhances the technological landscape but also highlights the importance of safety and inclusivity in urban transit systems.
