Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, revealed plans to invest $3 billion in India over the following two years. Building new data centers, increasing skill development, and growing cloud and AI infrastructure will be the main goals of the investment. By 2030, the corporation intends to teach an additional 10 million Indians in AI.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of making India a developed country by 2047—dubbed “Viksit Bharat”—this project seeks to advance AI innovation in India.
“India is quickly emerging as a leader in AI innovation, opening up new opportunities all throughout the nation. In a statement, Nadella stated, “The infrastructural and skilling investments we are announcing today will assist guarantee that individuals and organizations across the country benefit broadly and reinforce our commitment to make India AI-first.”
The US-based IT behemoth plans to extend its AI and cloud technology throughout the nation’s datacenter campuses. Three of Microsoft’s data center regions are now available, while the fourth is scheduled to launch in 2026.
Microsoft started the ADVANTA(I)GE India project in 2024 with the goal of educating two million Indians in AI by 2025. By 2030, the company hopes to have trained 10 million additional Indians in AI. As a component of the Global Skills for Social Impact program, this project will entail collaborations with communities, businesses, organizations, and the government.
In order to further its dedication to developing the AI ecosystem in India, Microsoft Research (MSR) Lab recently announced the creation of an AI Innovation Network. To speed up the shift from research to practical, useful commercial solutions, MSR will form new partnerships within the AI Innovation Network, particularly with digital natives.
