K Murali has been appointed as the new Director of the Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), effective July 1, 2025. He succeeds N Srinivas Rao, a respected scientist who recently completed his tenure. DLRL, part of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is renowned for its significant contributions to electronic warfare systems over the last sixty years, playing a vital role in enhancing the technological capabilities of the Indian armed forces.
K Murali is alum of Osmania University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1988, and he furthered his education with a Master’s in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Mysore, graduating in 1990.
His career at DRDO began when he joined DLRL as a Scientist-B. Over the years, he has taken on various roles within the laboratory, contributing to the design, development, production, and successful installation of numerous electronic warfare systems, radio frequency seekers, and counter-drone technologies that serve the needs of the armed forces.
Throughout his career, Murali has also been instrumental in steering and coordinating research and development initiatives in collaboration with academic institutions and industry partners. His vision for DLRL involves continuing to drive innovative projects and enhancing the laboratory’s capabilities in electronic warfare, ensuring that the Indian military remains at the forefront of technological advancements in this critical area.
Under his leadership, DLRL is expected to further strengthen its contributions to defense technology, fostering strategic advancements that support national security objectives.
