The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched a new centre called the ‘Centre for Cybersecurity, Trust and Reliability’ (CyStar) to advance research in cybersecurity. The goal of this centre is to promote both basic and applied research that can lead to new developments in areas like blockchain, artificial intelligence security, cryptography, quantum security, and Internet of Things (IoT) security.
CyStar’s mission is to drive progress in cybersecurity by focusing on innovative research and education. The centre brings together experts from different fields, emphasizing a multi-disciplinary approach to tackle cybersecurity challenges. According to IIT Madras, the research team at CyStar has a diverse range of skills, which is important for addressing complex security issues.
The centre plans to work closely with universities, industries, and research institutions from around the world. It aims to prepare students, professionals, and researchers to handle current and future cybersecurity threats. CyStar’s efforts will cover a variety of sectors, including finance, healthcare, automotive, and electronics, to enhance security across these industries.
During the launch event, Prof. V Kamakoti, the Director of IIT Madras, highlighted the growing risk of cyber threats that target critical infrastructure. He emphasized the need for proactive measures to protect the nation’s digital assets and praised the centre’s role in strengthening cyber defence.
