Hyderabad: The first Yellow Ribbon Run, scheduled for March 3, 2024, at Jalavihar on Necklace Road in Hyderabad, is being organised by the Endometriosis Foundation of India, the country’s first and only organisation devoted to the disease’s cause and for its patients. Dr. Vimee Bindra, who was born and raised in the city, founded the organisation. Prominent speakers from across the world have also scheduled a number of panel discussions in the lead-up to the event.
Apollo Hospitals, LIC, NMDC, Birla A1 Cement, Felicity, Sparkles Montessori, BMK Private Limited, Centro, and Cope Clinics and ThoughtRadius provided generous support for the event. By releasing event t-shirts, Tollywood celebrities Shiva Kandukuri and Rashi Singh show their support for this effort.
Endometriosis is as prevalent as diabetes and asthma, yet it’s the health issue that impacts individuals the most—physically, psychologically, emotionally, and professionally—and is also the most misdiagnosed, underfunded, and underresearched.
The Yellow Ribbon Over 2000 participants from all walks of life are expected to participate in the Endometriosis Foundation of India’s inaugural Endometriosis awareness marathon. The Endometriosis Foundation of India was established with the intention of raising awareness, offering assistance, and building relationships with a range of stakeholders, particularly the state and federal governments and medical institutions, in order to bring accessible and reasonably priced medical solutions to endometriosis patients.
Providing the specifics “On average, one in ten women suffer from endometriosis, affecting over 4.2 crore women in India,” stated Dr. Vimee Bindra, the founder of The Endometriosis Foundation of India. According to WHO guidelines, the doctor-to-patient ratio should be between 1 and 1000. The level of endometriosis care available in India today is not up to par with the severity of the problem.
The goal of the Yellow Ribbon Run is to raise public awareness of endometriosis, persuade decision-makers to fund research and development, and establish collaborations with relevant parties. In addition to the marathon, we have a series of talks with stakeholders and distinguished panellists from across the world scheduled for the first week of March 2024 in Hyderabad to emphasise the need of raising awareness of endometriosis.
Chief guest Ms. Karuna Gopal Vartakavi, National Head of Women Policies at the Bhp and President of Futuristic Cities, expressed her gratitude for being a part of the healthy campaign to educate girls and women about endometriosis: “I feel incredibly privileged to be a part of this healthy initiative.” I had several conversations with the foundation, driven by my enthusiasm for women’s concerns, in order to bring attention to these problems, close gaps in knowledge, and establish connections with decision-makers and interested parties.
I have recommended that the foundation produce a detailed study to legislators so that any necessary policy adjustments may be made. Additionally, I have recommended that the foundation collaborate with insurance firms and regulatory bodies to persuasively advocate for the inclusion of endometriosis in health care programmes. After that, Ms. Karuna Gopal, Dr. Vimee Bindra, and other dignitaries unveiled the medals, t-shirts, and event logo.
