At present generation most of the youngsters are facing back pain problem especially the people who are working desk jobs spend long hours sitting, which can harm their physical and mental health. Sitting improperly or leaning for long hours increases the load on the discs, which can increase the pressure.
This pressure on the lower discs can cause them to herniated, or slip out of place.
Dr. Sudhir Kumar, a neurologist at Apollo Hospital, shared seven important tips to help desk workers stay healthier.
Shared on X, Dr. Kumar’s tips include:
1. Take a standing or walking break for 2-3 minutes every 30-40 minutes.
2. Consider using a standing desk.
3. Stand during coffee breaks instead of sitting.
4. Walk to a colleague’s desk for discussions instead of calling or messaging.
5. Encourage standing during meetings and avoid serving snacks, just coffee.
6. Reduce sitting during leisure time, like watching TV, after work.
7. Turn one hour of sitting each day into physical activity, such as walking.
He explained that sitting for more than six hours a day can increase the risk of many serious diseases like migraines, rheumatoid arthritis, COPD, liver disease, diabetes, depression, kidney disease, asthma, thyroid disorders, gout, diverticular disease, and heart disease.
By limiting sitting time to less than six hours a day, the risk of migraines can be reduced by 22%. Additionally, replacing one hour of sitting with physical activity can lower the risk of many health problems significantly.
These simple changes can make a big difference in the health and well-being of those who work at desks.
