Google is testing a new artificial intelligence tool called “Daily Listen,” which provides users with a five-minute audio synopsis of stories and subjects they might find interesting.

A user’s Discover feed and news searches serve as the basis for the AI-generated audio summary. Along with cover art, Daily Listen also offers an AI-generated transcript of the audio summary.

Both iOS and Android users in the US can use the feature. To activate it, click the triangular beaker in the upper-left corner of the Google app to navigate to the Search Labs section.

The “Made for you” Daily Listen card will appear in the Space carousel beneath the Google Search bar the day after it is enabled. When the card is clicked, a full-screen player opens and asks viewers to give it thumbs up or down.

Google introduced NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews in September of last year. It employs artificial intelligence (AI) to turn documents into 10-minute podcasts with “AI hosts” that can summarize the content, draw connections between subjects, and engage in back-and-forth conversation.

Google revealed an intriguing update to Notebook LM’s Audio Overviews function a few weeks ago. By “phoning in” to the podcast, users can now participate in the discussion between AI hosts. They can request further details or an alternative explanation from the AI hosts.

Google described it as “similar to having a personal tutor or guide who listens intently and then answers immediately, based on the knowledge in your sources.” Gemini 1.5 Pro and the experimental version of Gemini 2.0 Flash power the AI note-taking software.
