However, recent findings from The Lancet study, part of the COVID-STEROID 2 trial, unveil a complex tapestry of responses between Europe and India, challenging the one-size-fits-all approach in global healthcare.

Europe vs. India

The study’s startling revelation lies in the geographic variance in treatment efficacy. European patients exhibited a significant decrease in mortality risk when administered higher doses of dexamethasone. In stark contrast, this benefit was almost negligible in India. This discrepancy extends beyond mortality rates to encompass serious adverse reactions and survival rates without life support, with Indian patients faring better in both respects.

What drives these regional disparities? The answer lies in the nuanced interplay of patient characteristics, healthcare infrastructure, and comorbidity profiles.
