AU Launches National FDP on Generative AI and Ethical Education

Andhra University has launched a five-day national Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on the theme, “Generative AI in Education and Training: Integrating Moral Values, Ethics and NEP 2020 for Transforming Teaching-Learning.”

The programme brings together educators and academic experts to examine how generative artificial intelligence can be incorporated into teaching, learning and training while preserving academic integrity, ethical responsibility and human values.

The initiative reflects Andhra University’s broader emphasis on improving the quality of teaching, learning and research, fostering global competencies and promoting the responsible use of advanced technology. These priorities are also identified in the university’s stated mission.

Education at the centre of national progress

Addressing the inaugural session, Prof. K. Pushpanadham, Member of the National Council for Teacher Education and affiliated with Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, said that the future of a nation is shaped in its classrooms.

He underlined the importance of effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and stressed that the quality of education is closely linked to the quality of teachers. He also noted that no nation can progress beyond the standard of its educators.

The observation assumes particular significance as institutions across India seek to adapt curricula and teaching practices to rapid changes in artificial intelligence, digital learning and emerging technologies.

AI integration with responsibility

Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.P. Rajasekhar said artificial intelligence has demonstrated considerable potential in addressing complex problems. He urged educators to incorporate modern technologies into academic curricula and make full use of the programme’s hands-on technical sessions.

The FDP is designed to move beyond a theoretical discussion of AI. Its focus is on helping faculty members understand how generative AI can be used meaningfully in classroom instruction, academic training and research while ensuring that technology remains aligned with educational objectives.

The programme’s emphasis on moral values and ethics is intended to address concerns surrounding the responsible use of AI, including academic honesty, accountability, informed decision-making and the role of teachers in guiding students through an increasingly automated information environment.

Curriculum must evolve

Prof. M.T.V. Nagaraju of the Central University of Jharkhand commended Andhra University for organising specialised training in generative AI. He said academic curricula must evolve in response to rapid technological change.

His remarks highlighted the need for faculty development to remain a continuous process. As AI tools begin to influence content creation, assessment, research and communication, educators require opportunities to update both their technical knowledge and pedagogical approaches.

Prof. T. Sharon Raju, convener of the FDP, said that guiding educators to use artificial intelligence responsibly would contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The programme, she added, seeks to equip faculty members to engage with AI as an educational tool while maintaining ethical and value-based practices.

Technology as a collaborative journey

Prof. P.S. Avadhani, former Director of IIIT Agartala, encouraged faculty members to regard technology adoption as a collaborative journey. He said that meaningful engagement with emerging technologies can help empower future generations.

The programme therefore places educators at the centre of AI-enabled transformation rather than treating technology as a substitute for teachers. Its underlying approach is to combine the capabilities of generative AI with the professional judgment, mentorship and social responsibility of academic institutions.

The inaugural ceremony concluded with the traditional felicitation of the distinguished guests.

Andhra University’s FDP comes as higher-education institutions increasingly examine ways to align emerging technologies with the objectives of NEP 2020. By combining generative AI training with discussions on ethics, moral values and educational policy, the university has positioned the programme as an effort to prepare faculty members for a rapidly changing teaching-learning landscape.
