This extraordinary journey, which included unexpected delays due to technical issues, required physical and mental endurance and adaptability, showcasing the resilience required of astronauts.
The Need for Rehabilitation
When astronauts return to Earth after spending months or even years in microgravity, their bodies face several physical challenges. The absence of gravity can lead to muscle atrophy, bone density loss, and changes in fluid distribution in the body. In response to these challenges, NASA has developed sophisticated rehabilitation protocols.
The rehabilitation program follows a structured approach divided into various phases:
1. Phase 1: Ambulation and Muscle Strengthening
During the initial phase, the focus is on basic movements and muscle strengthening exercises. This is crucial for enhancing mobility and restoring muscle mass that may have deteriorated during their time in space.
