Hyderabad: On Wednesday, Apollo Cancer Centres (ACC), located in Hyderabad, began offering Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) treatments as an outpatient facility for patients. This decreases hospital stays and treatment expenditures by fifty percent.
According to a press release, one-day BMT will also reduce hospital-related stress and infection risk, improve patient comfort by enabling recuperation at home, and boost convenience with daily OP monitoring and care for patients with lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and other hematologic diseases.
The procedure entails harvesting stem cells from bone marrow, administering high-dose chemotherapy, and transplanting the stem cells. All of these steps are done as day care, with daily visits to the haematology ward for evaluation and monitoring.
Patients are given prepared medication records, prescriptions that are delivered, and thorough instruction on medication management upon daily release. Patients will receive round-the-clock assistance from the BMT/Hematology unit in addition to a designated contact team doctor. Hospital beds are also screened for unforeseen consequences.
“By significantly minimising the need for prolonged hospital stays and reducing the costs by 50%, this service offers patients the life-saving benefits of bone marrow transplantation while prioritising their comfort, convenience, and quality of life,” stated Dr. Padmaja Lokireddy, senior haemato oncologist at ACC. At the event, key physicians and patients were in attendance, including Tejesvi Veerepalli, CEO of the Apollo Cancer Centre in Hyderabad, and Dinesh Madhavan, president of Group Oncology and International Apollo Hospital Enterprises Ltd.
