Minimally invasive technique using ultra-cold therapy shows promise at Hyderabad hospital
A breakthrough in pain management has emerged from a Hyderabad medical facility, where physicians successfully treated a chronic scrotal pain case using cryoablation—a needle-based technique involving extreme cold—instead of conventional surgery.
The 51-year-old patient, who had endured debilitating pain for eight months, experienced immediate relief following the procedure at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad. The condition severely restricted his daily activities, causing discomfort while sitting, standing, or lying down.
Cryoablation represents an emerging paradigm in interventional pain management. The procedure involves inserting a thin needle into the affected area under ultrasound guidance and delivering extremely cold gas through it to temporarily disable pain-transmitting nerve cells. This mechanism circumvents the need for invasive surgical intervention while providing sustained pain relief.
Dr. Anusha Karumuri, the interventional pain specialist who led the treatment, emphasized that the procedure requires no surgery and can be completed in a short duration, offering long-term relief with minimal discomfort.
The therapeutic application extends beyond scrotal conditions. Medical experts note that cryoablation therapy can address several other chronic pain conditions affecting different parts of the body, potentially offering alternatives to surgery for patients with various musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain disorders.
This advancement reflects the growing integration of precision medicine and minimally invasive techniques in Indian healthcare. Ultrasound-guided cryoablation exemplifies how technological innovation enables clinicians to target pathological tissue with enhanced accuracy while reducing procedural morbidity.
As pain management continues evolving toward less invasive modalities, such techniques may reshape treatment protocols for chronic conditions, particularly benefiting patients seeking alternatives to traditional surgical approaches. The success in Hyderabad reinforces the potential of cryotherapy in expanding therapeutic options within the Indian medical landscape.
