The second Hyderabad Annual Tree (HAT) Biodiversity Survey is set to take place on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 8 am to 11 am. This event, organized by WWF-India’s Hyderabad chapter, invites all nature lovers from Hyderabad and nearby districts to participate. The main goal of this survey is to explore and understand the complicated connections between trees and animals within the city.

During the survey, volunteers will have the chance to observe and note down various species that inhabit or visit the trees in Hyderabad. The state director of WWF-India, Farida Tampal, emphasizes the importance of this survey in raising awareness among people about the city’s flora and fauna. By getting involved in the conservation of urban forests, community members can contribute to protecting the environment.

To cover a wide range of habitats, the city will be divided into six zones, with specific streets and parks designated for the survey. Each volunteer will fill out a survey form for every tree they examine. This form will include important details like the tree’s name, its size, and whether it is flowering or bearing fruit. Additionally, volunteers will document information about any animals they see in or around the trees, including the species and the number of different animals present during their observations.

The data collected will be valuable for scientific research and can help guide government policies regarding urban nature conservation. This hands-on approach not only aids in understanding biodiversity but also fosters a sense of responsibility among residents towards their natural surroundings.

Those interested in participating can register online or contact the organizers for more information. This event represents an exciting opportunity for the community to engage with nature, learn more about their environment, and play a part in efforts to preserve biodiversity in Hyderabad.
